Wood and Barrel Aged Beer Tasting: December 27th, 2022. Time: from one ’til we’re done… Tickets are $45 each and entitle you to a tasting of Wisconsin crafted wood and barrel aged beers. Food will also be supplied. We will be updating this year’s offerings as they are stocked.
THIS YEAR SO FAR:
1: New Glarus Oak Aged Nectar Ale 6% ABV (4.19 Untappd) Sweet nuances of Bavarian heritage Geisenheim grapes, harvested in New York, dance effortlessly with malted barley and raw wheat in this unexpected celebration of traditional Lambic brewing methods. Dan’s masterful blending of wild fruit cave batches from 2017, 18 and 19 result in this luminous nectar of the Gods. Sparkling notes of honeyed apricot and candied lemon create illusions of summertime honeysuckle and hummingbirds. Finally, a long six week rest in oak completed the spontaneous fermentation sealing forever this marriage of wine and beer.
2: Cuvee Blend #1 3 Sheeps Brewing Company Stout – Imperial / Double 12.4% ABV (4.32 Untappd) Their yearly release that looks back at previous year’s barrel aged beer. This year’s Cuvee Blend is a delicious mix of Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine, Bourbon Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout, Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout and a Rye Barrel Aged Quad.
3: Central Waters Dark & Stormy Brewer’s Reserve Dark and Stormy Ale (2022) Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy 12.3% ABV (3.44 Untappd) Rum barrel-aged Imperial Scotch Ale with ginger root and lime zest
4: Hinterland Bourbon Barrel Lunatic Stout – Imperial / Double Intense dark chocolate, coffee and cocoa malt flavors. Opaque and black with substantial body. Aged in bourbon and rye whiskey barrels. 9.5% ABV 55 IBU (3.87 Untappd)
5: Belgian Red New Glarus Brewing Company Fruit Beer 4% ABV (4.22 Untappd) This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries, Wisconsin Farmed Wheat and Belgian Roasted Barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops and aged in the brewery one full year. Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle makes this beer uniquely “Wisconsin.” Expect this beer to be ruby red, with a medium body that is highly carbonated and intense with cherry flavor and bouquet.
6: Raspberry Tart New Glarus Brewing Company Fruit Beer 4% ABV (4.2 Untappd) Severe Drought, we shared the farmer’s horror as Wisconsin’s cherry crop failed! Dan bought what cherries he could. The Apple crop fared better. Then joy! A grand Wisconsin cranberry harvest. What will Dan brew with Apples, Cranberries and Cherries? Oh my! You hold the happy accident of Wisconsin’s favorite fruit aged in oak with an almost magical wild fermentation. Serendipity is a wondrous celebration that sparkles your senses and dances across your palate. A kaleidoscope of flavor discovered by accident in a sour ale!
